Derby Course at The Belfry

Okay - probs preferred to PGA as more interesting and easier on the eye. Lots of works being done to the bunkers but greens were v good.

The course was bogy in a lot of places

Quite disappointed in the course. Nearly all the bunkers were ground under repair and is clearly the poor relati e of the other 2 courses.

Course really suffered from hit dry summer. Greens excellent though due to watering.

Easier course less bunkers greens again was immaculate. Some bunkers need a lot of work done to them but overall great course

The derby course was burnt out on the fairways and most bunkers GUR and untidy .

The worst course at the Belfry, but don't let this put you off, it's still better than most courses I've played, the bunkers were all just out of play under repair

Corse was ok, course & greens were better than we were expecting reading previous reviews. It’s just your average £40 course

Despite the comment above we enjoyed this course and felt it was in better condition than the PGA. We were pleased with this as the starter on the PGA had set us up for a big disappointment here. It was far more playable for a medium handicap and had far far less bunkers than the PGA.

Amazing experience, will definitely be back. Loved every minute.

Bunkers on the front nine were overgrown with weeds and soil tipped in them, not sure if they were letting them go wild !!!

Been neglected pretty rubbish to be honest

Nice touch being driven to 1st tee and picked up after round. Driver very friendly and helpful explaining all about the course. Well kept greens (very fast), bunkers could have done with a bit more sand.

This is the only complaint I have about the whole trip. When we arrived at the course we were informed that a third person was playing with us much to my surprise it was a junior golfer which I think is totally wrong to send him with two unknowns males I don’t think that is very good safe guarding I think this should be pointed out to the Belfry. Also not the juniors fault he was a 30 handicap and not very good which did spoil our a round

Looks like course has been neglected

The course was in terrible condition!! Not worth the money.

We had two 3 balls booked on both days but got split up twice and had to ply with strangers both days. Day 2 the t off times didn’t match the booking so we played an hour later.

Fantastic parklands course, well laid out and challenging in the right places. Would definitely play again.

Course was in poor condition. If I was returning I would not play the derby

Interesting course, easy to play until you get to the greens which are fast and very tricky but fun. One very fast downhill 12 foot putt hardly struck finished up 40 feet past! But most of there greens are fair but never flat and it will test your skills but in an enjoyable way.

Shocking condition on the fairways and some of the bunkers where GUR and made it poor experience

There seems to be some reconstruction going on,the course has some well designed holes,does make you think with run off's,but unfortunately the course has been battered

The derby by nature is not the most popular course out of all 3 and the weather conditions have been very extremely difficult this year and it definitely showed on the fairways that really needed some water, the greens however were still decent and overall it’s a good warm up course to the other two

Hitting a fairway and mostly getting bare lies. 70% of the bunkers were unplayable. if we’d have known the condition of the course we wouldn’t have played it. And for the extra money would’ve played the PGA course.

Needs a fair bit of work doing! with the other two courses at the belfry this seems to be the one that’s been forgot! better in the first cut that in the fairway! bunkers really poor

Really clean and immaculate

Not in the best condition. Looks like it's the course that gets attention if the other two are all up together. Could see that they were in the middle of upgrading some bunkers but didn't see any green keepers working on any of the bunkers only cutting the grass. Shame really as the course is layout is ok.

It’s a great way to start your trip. A nice warm up course.

A very good golf course and enjoyable a lot easier than the other 2 courses but very interesting and a good challange.

Course was very poor quality

The Derby is a more ‘natural’ course. Longer grass on fairways. Much smaller bunkers, greens were ok but not as fast as The National and a little uneven in places. Generally the course looked beautiful. A lot of geese with goslings to add to that natural experience! A short mini bus ride takes and collects you to and from the 1st tee.

Brilliant time

You could tell this was the No3 course, greens were very bobbly so putting was a lottery. The course isn’t particularly long but is pretty tight, keep it straight off the tee and you’ll have a good round.

Course was fine. Greens in very good condition. Staff and organisation was very good, considering the amount of golfers that were there. Some bottlenecks on way round, which meant round was slower. But didn’t spoil the enjoyment.

The fairways were decent but the rough has bare patches which doesn’t offer consistent lies.

Lovely course, not the longest but the very fast and undulating and sloped greens provided an excellent challenge for the entire group.

Fantastic got great score and felt very relaxed the course marshall on this course was very friendly and helpful even told us to grab a cup of tea so we weren't waiting on the group in front an all round great morning can't wait to play the pga

Better than pga course in condition with wicked fast greens. Overall not in great condition and worse than my local club. Belfry courses living on reputation of the venue rather than having brilliantly maintained courses. Bit disappointed overall in my first trip to a premier golfing resort in the UK.

Alot of work around bunkers

Derby course is as advertised. It's the easier of the three of the Belfry but still provided a test similar to most people's local courses. Greens were absolutely rapid although this may be due to the fact that we played it later in the afternoon.

The course is well set out and the greens were excellent

We were dropped off 5 mins before t time so no time to practice the greens were in terrible condition with lots of disease and rock hard so ball did not stop and lightning quick way too fast for an average golfer

The course was a little under my expectations. But this was due to the fact there was a lot of work being carried out on it. No doubt once this has been finished it will improve the Derby.

First time on the Derby and the greens were in a near perfect condition 👍

Very wet in some places. No halfway house or starter (supposedly the van driver) Greens all good and running well for winter.

A good course, and one of those courses which you could easily leave your driver in the bag if you are not feeling confident with it and it wouldn’t really matter

An underrated course in excellent condition and greens were superb. Minibus shuttle to and from the 1st tee was excellent and the staff very helpful and knowledgeable. We all preferred this course to the PGA National.

Nice course not too difficult.

Nice to finish with a slightly easier course. However be aware the greens are very difficult to read

Thank you to the pro shop who bumped us up to an earlier tee time. not rushed and paced perfectly for us.

Wasn’t fair being paired up with another two ball, as it made me and my son very nervous and we couldn’t enjoy the round , as the starter was rushing everyone on. Very disappointed. Lovely course very fast greens.

Never undersetimate these greens. They were the same standard as the Brabazon.....lightening fast

I didn’t play the Derby but my wife said it was ok.

We played 2v2 better ball format , this made play a bit faster, but we didn’t get held up behind the group in front. Again, we all enjoyed the derby course & the conditions were excellent.

10 handicap here, not the longest course, but the pin positions make it alot harder, alot of thinking needed!

Greens were deceptive! Very good quality and reasonably fast (we played in wet conditions)

Nice to play this one first, gets you used to how fast the greens are. Course was quite empty, although it was a Monday. We got round under the expected time. Nice course, but not quite the same standard as the other two

Fantastic condition, really well prepared course.

Fairways were mown quite long, reducing ball run and in some cases making balls difficult to find. First and second cuts off the fairways were very long, thus wasting time while balls were located. Greens were pretty fast though!!

A good test of golf, it has suffered from the wet weather, and was still boggy in places. The greens were good and the rough was long as it had been too wet to cut. However we all enjoyed the course.

Again very good condition considering the weather we have had. Enjoyable round of golf.

First time I’ve played The Derby, normal play the Brabazon and the PGA but have to say was pleasantly surprised with the Derby, a great little course with some interesting holes, tight in places and good par3, would definitely play again.

Not as good as the Branson but a very good back up course

The course was rough, looked uncared for to a degree.

A more "forgiving" course than the PGA we played on the first day and better suited to our level of play although not without challenge. On the day the course was very wet and boggy in parts but every effort seemed to have been made to keep the course playable.

Weather didn't help course should of been closed absolutely waterlogged no buggies or trolleys allowed so I couldn't play

Again boggy and wet in places, but the volume of rain the past few months warrants that completely. That being said, conditions were far better on the fairways on the Derby compared with the PGA.

Course was a disgrace, under water. Lost balls on most fairways, no way they are closing it on Sunday. Never going back. Had to carry bags . No offer of compensation. No care for the enjoyment of the players

Beautiful course. Unfortunately weather was not kind on the day. Course was bit muddy due to the heavy rain we had whole week. But overall experience is great.

The course was generally in good condition, a few greens maybe not upto the standard. The bunkers didn't have enough sand in them.

A bit “rough and ready” compared to The Brabazon. Like an average course really. The semi rough needed to be cut and those areas were rather bumpy for the buggy.

Great course to start the weekend with makes you feel good for the next day very good long course

A really nice course to play, I would love to have another go at it. The tee boxes were just right, nice and even,the fairways were pretty good too. The greens however, were excellent, hard and fast, and once I got used to them, fantastic to play on.

The Derby course was the perfect course to end the trip on, less challenging than the other two but also a brilliant course in its own right.

The derby was in the same condition as the brabazon. Grass was very long. But it being the average course there it was to be expected. Wasn’t held up and got to play it in just over 4 hours when was good. The shuttle bus was a nice touch.

Lesser of the 3 courses, but made for a nice warm up round. Nice if unspectacular and a bit forgettable.

Still a good course, but not the prettiest on the eye, as you go round, but ok.

The derby was still a good course to play after playing the other two very good courses. Our round was held up by a couple of slow groups which wasn’t great but overall still an enjoyable round to cap off a very good golf trip.

Probably spoilt by previously playing the Brabazon & PGA on the previous days, not a course I eould go back for

This course is more suited for fun/social round, less punishing than the PGA or Brabazon, although still in excellent condition and fun to play

Many greens were solid and impossible to stop on, most fringes were also hard making run ons impossible too.

Greens were difficult but good

The Darby course is a lot shorter than the other 2 courses but none the less challenging. Bunkers in the condition as the PGA stones, not racked and no sand. But still very much enjoyable and will definitely come back.

Not much to the course, greens were lovely nice roll on the ball. Great course to play 1st if you intend on playing the 3 courses if you are playing the 3 courses!!

Good course to play with a hangover

Hopefully the new owners will be spending more on this course. He fairways were the worst I’ve played on in 30 years of playing golf!

We was very disappionted with the derby course, our local course that we are members was in better condition.

The course was in poor condition with the fairways and tees being the worse. It was actually easier to play out of the rough as the fairways had little or no grass on them. The greens were good and true.

Nice enough course as a warm up and kept in decent condition. But the PGA and the Brabazon are the main attraction.

Saying this was the no 3 course on the resort, we really enjoyed it. The greens were excellent and it was a good warm up for the Brabazon.

The greens were very hard to read for amateurs but the approach was easdy

The marshal set several of us off in quick succession which caused pr less later on. We spent a lot of time waiting around.

Basic of the 3 courses available but a good option as a 3rd course and a nice warm-up course for the weekend.

I loved this coarse,it maybe the lesser of the three in many peoples eyes but it still is quality little gem.i played this course very well.

It was a decent course but when we go again I’d probably just book the pga and brabazon. It wasn’t a bad course but when you compare it to the above 2 there’s a huge gap.

After booking in in the pro shop which was easy we were taken by mini bus to the first tee. Staff were again very good briefly described the course and pin positions.Course is flat with wide open fairways with no real signature hole.Our group thought it was a reasonable course to start our break but probable forgettable. The course itself was in good condition given the weather a few weeks before. Plenty of ground staff seen working around the course.When we finished the mini bus was there to collect us. A nice touch was that we could leave our bags and trollies in a secure lock up overnight.

a decent course for a beginner, nice and open. Harder than what we were told, but that was maybe because of the wind and plugging of balls but that is just because of the time of the year. The greens were a little hit and miss. Overall a great start to the trip

Really enjoyed the course and the weather was kind to us on the day. Tees wer at times on uneven footing being placed to the side of each tee. Fairways and grrens were good for the time of year.

It’s a shame that we played this course last. Had we played it first I think we would have thought more of it but it does pale in comparison to the Brabazon and National courses. Quite open so less demanding off the tee.

When you compare the other 2 courses and the attention to care, this course fails miserably.

Very good course in very good condition, to be fair and I'm not being cynical, it was like rich man, poor man after playing the Brabazon, if I'd not played the Brabazon then the Derby course in my opinion would have being like any players home course, not to difficult for the mid handicap players but challenging for the higher handicapper, I still thoroughly enjoyed playing it though.

A lovely course to kick off with, the pace of play was too slow but I guess that was to be expected as it was so busy.

Nice enough course. Nothing special compared to some of the courses I play regularly though. Would play this one to get on the other 2.

Played the course twice but the second round got rained off after 12 holes. Course is a fair test but just a bit more work needed on bunkers and surrounding the greens.

Much easier than expected and holes are a little “samey” but not bad for the weakest course. Wouldn’t like to pay top dollar for it though

The Derby was perfect for our last day after playing both the Brabazon and National. The course is in good condition but not as long and difficult and the others. The course was not as busy and we completed our rounds in 4 hours.

This is the 3rd course at the Belfry and is definitely the little brother of the 3. Not too difficult but still interesting enough for the average golfer. Much easier to find wayward shots than the PGA Coursez

After the warm up on the PGA the main event of the Brabazon and England’s Euro semi final in Sam’s bar what better way to wind down than the Derby. Great course excellent condition and fractionally easier but still great fun. The perfect end to a perfect trip. Thanks The Belfry ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a very enjoyable round of golf the drive to the first tee was very Covid safe and the driver very friendly.All the instructions given were excellent very good course in very good condition

Nice course in good condition for time of year. Just what was needed to restore folding confidence after tough Brabazon the day before.

A short course but a perfect warm up for one of the harder courses.

Pleasantly surprised by The Derby - greens were in great condition and much better than I remember compared to last time I played there.

Great little parkland course

The fairways wasn’t looked after very well and one of the greens was half dig up but other that that a fairly good course not as well looked after as the brabazon or pga. Tee times could of been further apart was waiting 5 mins on every hole before we could tee off.

This course was very disappointing. We would rate it the lowest of the dozen courses we have played on our current trip. Most of the bunkers were unplayable although the greens were fairly good.

Tee times should be 10 minutes apart. Greens were quick and slopey. Nice course overall.

In comparison to the Brabazon not a patch, but it does make for enjoyment on a more relaxed basis.

Behind schedule by 40 minutes, when waiting to go to first tee via taxi noticed we got put with a random bloke who we didn’t know. When got to first tee as we were a 3 ball but then put into a 4 ball noticed there was a lot of 2 balls in front what made it very slow and can’t understand why the bloke who joined with us never got put with them.

Brilliant day, not the longest course but the super speedy greens made it a real test.

Nice forgiving course and a pleasure to play

From my experience this course played well and a bonus for myself as I won on the day but yet again a great course.

A nice course to start with at the Belfry.

A decent course which plays significantly easier than the other two.

We played the Derby in torrential rain but the course withstood the downpour, at no time did any of the greens have standing water, the fairways struggled a little but were still playable. A good resort style course.

Didn’t think this was anything spectacular. It played quite short and wasn’t very challenging. My friend who plays off 15 shot 78! But still a nice looking course.

A beginners course, not as well looked after as the other courses

Good preparation for the Brabazon course. The greens were a little disappointing and very sandy but the fairways were in good condition. Every hole is interesting and requiring of thought to navigate. The bus to the tee box adds to the class and anticipation of the first tee shot. An enjoyable course for the mid-high handicappers and a perfect warm up for the Brabazon the following day.

The course was abit of a let down but probably because we played the Brabazon the day before which set high expectations. The greens had not long been hollow-tined so abit ropey but in all, a fair course for beginners. For top end golfers, I'd stick to the PGA or Brab.

Didn't get to play this course so there was no facility to comment so gave it all average

Course was very disappointing. Ok layout although very tight with holes very close with many near misses and fore shouts. Green just hollow-tined, with what appeared no sand or rolling treatment so they were awful. Seems very late for time of year to do this with little chance to recover so they we absolutely awful. Fairways were very average at best, with many bare patches and tees were uneven and needed some TLC. Didn’t see a drinks buggy all the way round! Not a Belfry experience course...

As a not very good golfer this is ideal for me however the greens are in very poor condition, thy look like a 4G green very rubber and very little grass makes putting even harder as the ball has no natural surface to roll on. I did enquire about the greens but was assured that there is no artificial surface anywhere at the belfry. If this is the case very very poor greens

Hard to compare after playing the Brabazon.... Ok for a knock.

Condition was poor. Good layout though. The bus to the first tee is well organised. Wouldn't play this one again.

Very disappointed with the course. And would not travel to the belfry again to play this course. My council course is head and shoulders above it. Nothing special about it at all . the fairways were poor . covered in leaves and it made no impression on me at all. The othe 3 feel exactly the same . it felt like they added it on the back to increase revenue and live off the name of the ryder cup . very poor
