Berkshire is renowned for its idyllic countryside, and Wokefield Estate's tranquil surroundings are no different, resulting in a beautiful place to play golf. With no fewer than nine lakes littered around the course, there is no shortage of difficulty for visiting golfers to negotiate, but the outstanding surroundings should be enough to alleviate the pain of any disappointing golf.
The course is carved through elevated tees and mature oaks, along manicured fairways and immaculate putting surfaces. Besides the abundance of water, Gaunt has incorporated and abundance of huge bunkers throughout the course which place an emphasis on course management. Be warned, the rough is very penal if you stray from the fairways – so take plenty of golf balls!
There are several memorable holes throughout the round, particularly the par 5s, which require three good shots to have any chance of making birdie. The 9th is a classic risk/reward hole, where an ambitious drive over the water can leave a wedge to the green on this 450 yard dogleg.
Wokefield Estate is home to an excellent practice complex and driving range, where the PGA professionals offer expert technical guidance.
Signature Hole: 12th – (Par 3, 195 yards)
While the par 5s are all great challenges, it’s the par 3 12th that is worthy of a postcard. You’ll need a crisply struck medium-to-long iron to carry the glistening water that stands between you and the safety of the green. Even if you find the putting surface in regulation, the green’s severe undulations will make you work for your par. A terrific and beautiful golf hole.

Wokefield's story stretches back to the 1560s, when the original house was built for the affluent Plowden family, and you still feel that heritage in the estate's mix of grand architecture and modern wings. Accommodation is spread across Wokefield Place, the Mansion House and Wellington Lodge, with most golfers opting for the contemporary comfort of Wokefield Place, handy for the Pro Shop and main facilities.
Meticulously and thoughtfully restored, renovated and modernized for the 21st century, the Mansion House offers an inspiring setting. If you're after a bit more period character for a special occasion, ask about upgrading to the Mansion House when you book.
Across the resort, rooms are spacious and well set up for golf groups, with satellite TV and complimentary Wi-Fi as standard. Comfortable hotel with polite staff, plenty of space for groups and guests, although occasionally some urgency to being served in the bars and restaurants would be appreciated. The rooms can get warm as they do not have air conditioning or climate control, just plug in fans to move the air around, with the window opening severely restricted as a safety measure.

Really well organised visit to the hotel. Our group thought the choice of drinks was excellent as were the people, facilities, and location. Breakfast was great, but dinner wasn't the best. Really well organised and the people super helpful, but they ran out of buffet food and it felt like everything had to be asked for.

Gold groups seemed to arrive at same time on Friday, with only 1 person at the bar. Food could not be ordered u till Monday, when everyone rush to the bar. Food came out in no particular order, food had to be chased, and most Food had a 40 minute wait (sandwiches), with non correct orders delivered. Managed didn't seem to bothered by this. This them continued for the weekend

The hotel, and facilities were great but we were dissapointed that a number of our group were give twin rooms and had to share a bed. Some of the older guests were not happy and even paid to then get their own rooms which I do not think is right.

Hotel was great the food and rooms were good and the staff, got let down on the 20%bar discount which didnt help £7.20 for a pint of normal lager is not bit over the top its daylight robbery.but apart from that we were a group of 24 had a good time.

The course has suffered recently from the high temperatures and high volumes of golfers, otherwise it is a lovely long course that has great facilities, it rewards straight drives with lovely water hazards just waiting for the wayward shot

Good facilities with all the practice facilities you would expect. Really interesting and enjoyable layout, with really good bunker complexes and different styles of holes. Condition of the course was poor. Tees looked like they hadn't had any maintenance for months and had never seen any water beyond rain, no divoting or general maintenance as part of the course daily preparation. The greens a complete disaster. Rock hard, poor quality of surface, verticutting that hadn't been filled or repaired / prepared in any way, and practically not water used to the point where the sprinklers you could find clearly hadn't been maintained in months with the amount of grass growing around them and presumably not being used. Pace of play was 5 hours, which you come to expect unfortunatly, but what was surprising was the 4:30 standard time expected for a round. Should never be more than four hours...

Course had a battering from the sun which isn’t the courses fault. Sunday was slow but to be expected on a weekend, however the Monday was quiet and we flew around. Course had a great layout with lots of different scenarios for shot selection.

I am really disappointed that on the Saturday the pace of play was so slow our entire group left the course after 13 holes. There were multiple groups on tee box’s from the 6th hole and the waiting around became unbearable. Whilst I and the group enjoyed playing on the Friday I would unlikely book to return on the off chance that the pace was that slow again. It took over 3.5 hours to play 12 holes of golf!

The course is being neglected didnt see a greenkeeper in 3 days theres moss on greens there are no fringes cut on the greens the fairways were rough it was better to land just of the fairway at least you had a chance of sitting on some grass fairway bunkers were rock hard where they dried after being full of water couldnt have been raked in weeks its a shame played there pre covid and it was good.saturdays took 5 1/4 hours caused by a 5 ball rang pro shop and they werent interested seems to me there is something majorly wrong with the golf side of things could never recomend to anyone.I know its early in the season but the course can only get worse someone needs to do something fast or it will be gone for good shame
