0800 043 6644The fortunate creator was blessed with an unimaginably beautiful blank canvas as San Lorenzo sits in the Ria Formosa nature reserve, a vast park which is home to terrific plant and wildlife species. There are many different styles of golf at San Lorenzo, as you wind through the terrific pines, lakes, and private villas, while the course also works its way out to the coastline.
There are countless spectacular holes, like the sixth, a par-4 towards the ocean which gets the juices flowing, before the course builds up to a magnificent crescendo with the closing stretch; the 17th is a daunting test, while the closing hole is a the classic ‘risk/reward' hole, where the intrepid golfer must strike a good approach shot to reach the spectacular semi-island green.
San Lorenzo's considerable reputation is not for nothing - this terrific course will not disappoint should you visit during your next golf holiday in the Algarve.
The easiest way to experience the 7-time Portuguese Open host is to stay at the Dona Filipa Hotel.

The course was wet as the sprinklers had been used depsite days of rain. The cart paths were in poor condition. It was a shame about the clubhouse but the staff were excellent. A nice touch was the packed lunch provided in the cart.
I am loath to put such low ratings because I thoroughly enjoyed the course itself however the clubhouse burnt down a few years ago and they still have temporary everything. Clubhouse, bar - no food facilities. You are given a 'packed lunch' with the smallest bottle of water - I asked for another and was told to pay (I walked away and after a few minutes the staff begrudgingly gave me another) The tee off process was pretty chaotic - there doesnt seem to be much of a tee booking system and I had free reign to tee off 10 or 1 - great for me but it was quiet and could see it causing issues on a busier day. As with most Portugeuse golf courses - the staff are mostly non-golfers which brings with it a lack of understanding of what makes a good golf course. Shame as the course itself is a real challenge and very fun. It was not in great condition.
Good golf course with some fabulous holes. Shame no clubhouse (burnt down in electrical fire) Remarkably quiet starting 9am. Cart paths in need of considerable attention. Look forward to visiting again when clubhouse rebuilt.
The staff were exceptionally friendly, the course is s good test especially 8 and 18 and was in good condition for February. The clubhouse is being rebuilt, however, a packed lunch was provided and a temporary outside bar area has been set up for refreshments
Fabulous course which runs alongside wetlands and a nature reserve. We saw flamingos wading in the shallow waters. Some challenging holes with water on all sides
Having had a fire a couple of ears ago there was no clubhouse hence the three stars for facilities. They did give us upon arrival a bottle of water, a sandwich and a nut bar which was a nice gesture... Course was not that busy again due to the time of year we travelled so as a two ball was nice and quick. Course was in really good condition, greens fast and true. Layout flowed well, quite a long course but very enjoyable.
A must play golf course with so many varied and spectacular holes. There are only temporary facilities there at the moment following a fire last summer.
We turned up to a welcoming portacabin clubhouse, as the clubhouse had burnt down, which nobody mentioned from YGT, There was also a competition on which we had to follow the round took us 5.5 hrs, waiting on every shot, with up to 3 groups waiting on the tees, no buggy bar going round for drinks & the staff were rude as they were more focused on the competition than other guest, we had a drink afterwards on wonky table next to the road, we won't be going back to this course..
Good course but we played during a thunderstorm. Club house had a fire June 2023 and was not rebuilt November 2024 so limited facilities available. Staff did their best.
Incredible layout, club house had unfortunately been pulled down due to a fire but they still cater for you nicely. Played in a two which is always nice👍
Thought the quality of the course was worst we’d seen
Without doubt could be amazing and probably was when it first opened but funding challenges I believe have compromised the quality (lots of other comments re paths, greens etc.). I was genuinely worried when playing the first - really poor but got better and better actually. The holes around the Ria Formosa are outstanding. Overall, it's all been said by others - could be amazing and almost is....
Despite driving range being in a terrible state (balls and tee) and lack of clubhouse, the course was actually in OK condition. Would be great for someone to take this on and put some money into it as the layout is the best around.
Lack of a club house and the neglect of the greens and tee boxes was commented on by all the people we played with. Transport to the course and pick up after was good but a tent and some portacabins was very disappointing.
No clubhouse , out of a shed experience , staff poor , used to be a good course but very poor greens, real pity as layout amazing and generally the course design saved the experience. needs work.
A lovely course, challenging but varied and very enjoyable. Speed was rather slow due to number of 4 balls playing but we didn't mind the waits - we loved having time to take in the surroundings and marvel at the amazing villas that fronted most of the course.
Very disappointing This course was to be the highlight of our trip. It was the biggest letdown and i think your golf travel has a responsibility to make guests aware of course conditions before taking their bookings. I would not recommend San Lorenzo to anyone We have been going to Portugal for 15years, and this course in its current condition is by far the worst we have played. Greens were shocking Fairways is poor condition Cart paths almost undriveable in places.
Much better than some of the reviews make out , yes it’s not perfect but some great golf holes and enjoyable to play on , no club house so they give you a pack lunch and there is a little outside bar area which serves drinks but if it’s raining there is no shelter anywhere, the buggy paths are awful but we walked with hired electric trolleys so had a much better experience, would recommend walking if you are able
Great layout with some stunning holes.
Very scenic. Especially the holes along the ocean
All of the staff were friendly and helpful also having water and food given to us was a surprise overall we had an enjoyable day of golf
Nice course. Club house burnt down in 2023 so everything was in portacabins. Condition of course good but getting the buggy around the very rough cobbles was a pain.
Slow play & facilities were limited due to loss of clock house. Course is very good
Thoroughly enjoyed. Sad that the lovely club house had been destroyed by fire but that did not spoil our round of golf.
Sadly this course should be taken off the rota and suggested list until it sorts itself out. The Clubhouse burnt down (not there fault!) but that was 18 months ago and there is just a shack doing one type of roll for food, and water/beers. The buggies are sub standard v all the other courses, no yardages etc, and the course feels like one where theres very little maintance going on, the greens are poor, tee bays poor, and for as good as this course was 10 years ago you get the impression the owners have lost interest and are waiting to sell, one to avoid
This course should be one of the best in the area but it’s really in need of a lot of TLC. Clubhouse burnt down about a year ago and no sign of new one being built, such a shame as I think the layout is fantastic. The fairways and greens were in quite good nick but buggy paths and facilities need improvement.
A beautiful and challenging course. Limited clubhouse facilities due to a recent fire but this did not bother us.
Needs money spent on course and build a clubhouse
Beautiful course on the Ria Formosa. Shame the burned down clubhouse has not been rebuilt yet but they are doing their best. Shuttle bus from hotel to course works well if booked at hotel. Played 3 times and lost only 3 balls! Looking forward to going back.
Avoid this course. There are no facilities, the staff were unhelpful.
Sad, but they seem to not be putting any investment in the course. Been playing it for years as loved this course
Course us fine if busy with parties. Greens excellent as are fairways. Shame no plan to rebuild clubhouse after fire but doing their best with temp facilities.
YGT warned about a fire in the clubhouse and the possibility of restricted facilities. If by that you mean, no clubhouse, just the remaining concrete base, and an outside decking area about 8 metres square to sit, a portable bar and 2 porta loos, then restricted facilities is correct.
A great day out apart from the 18th...😂
Just love the course, wildlife and general ‘feel good’ atmosphere there.
The design of the course is very impressive. As an average golfer (at best!) the positioning of the bunkers etc. made us think about where to hit to rather than hit as far as we could. Also the greens were in good condition. The only downside was the lack of clubhouse which wasn't a surprise as this was known before travelling.
A new course for us and very enjoyable. Facilities are rated poor due to the loss of their clubhouse in wild fire last year - temporary accommodation in place, again, not advised in advance by YGT which was poor. The course needs a little TLC but the basics are strong and we would happily go back.
Not enough buggies to hire. Your Golf Travel should have told us we needed to book buggies, unable to play our 4th round because of this.
the clubhouse was destroyed in the recent bush fires and the course was in a very poor state. We wont be going back in the near future to this course. Its a shame as its a great layout.
Needs some work done to improve the experience, greens were good though
the clubhouse was burnt down and this was also pre-indicated by YGT but still it was a bit disappointing however staff was (as anywhere in Portugal) friendly. the course was nice to play but I remember it being in the top 10 best golf course in Europe and feel it has slide away from that position but still a very nice course to play
We had a nice round of golf, the course was a bit 'tired' in places. The buggy path was very rough and the lack of clubhouse meant we did not stay afterwards. The course was hard for our level but we enjoyed it.
Tough. Was hard to reach par 4 in 2. Par 3 amazing views
No club house. Course was good.
Sadly the golf club house was burnt down last year so no club house. They did provide us a complimentary packed lunch for our round. Lovely course -stunning and quite challenging.
Unfortunately the clubhouse was burnt to the ground 9 months ago with a forest fire. No attempt to rebuild was strange. I understand that Portugals planning rules are very strict ( that’s what they told me anyway) We were provide with a nice lunch pack which went down well with the boys. The course is fantastic overall with beautiful scenery and quite difficult for higher handicapper's like me. Anyone getting over 30 points stableford will be in the prizes! Little tip don’t hit your drive left off the tee, especially stroke index 1. Greens slick and quick and difficult to read. Great experience and if you like planes it’s situated on their flight path but not in a distracting way.
Club house had burnt down last year and not replaced, paths around course in shocking condition. On the plus side a sandwich lunch which was provided was much appreciated.
I was really disappointed with certain aspects of the course and it does appear the owners are simply relying on the plaudits they received some years ago. I consider the bunkers to be awful, with what I can only describe as builders ballest for sand. Full of stones and ideal for making concrete. The layout of the course was good and it was just these small but important aspects that would make me wonder whether I should return. From our hotel room we could see part of Quinta Do Largo South and the bunkers looked fabulous and a pleasure to go in them.
Nice course with some great views. Some different carries over water for the average golfer. Facilities will be much better once they have rebuilt their clubhouse (which was destroyed by a fire).
This course in my opinion should not be included in your schedule as the lack of facilities make it a poor visit. We were forced to take a buggy as they had no electric trolleys to rent us and using the buggy on their dreadful paths is positively dangerous and is likely to involve your company in law suits as an accident is going to happen.
Loved this golf course. The course was really lovely with every hole different and challenging. Greens were true and not to fast. If I was being hyper critical banks sweeping down to the fairways could be more attractive if planted with shrubs! Very disappointed that there was no club house! We really enjoyed the post game drinks and meal after playing Pinheiros. Because of this we will not return to this course until the club house is rebuilt.
Course is difficult, caraway are actually dangerous and overall condition of course is poor. Add in that there is no clubhouse and next to no facilities, you should not be promoting this course until the above improvements are made
The course was a bit disappointing as the prices were high (6€ for a small redbull) and the roads were in quite bad condition. The course itself was in a great condition though.
Good. No facilities following a fire last year.
Great Course, Sadly the fire has meant the facilities are not as good but very enjoyable
Beautiful course, their clubhouse has burned down but they had everything we needed anyway
Had a good round at San Lorenzo. Haven’t been there for a number of years so was nice to go back. Course was in good condition. It was a shame that due to the fire there was no clubhouse, changing facilities etc.
Course in good condition as always , clubhouse burnt down and staff doing a good job from the portacabins. Staff still friendly
This is longer and more tiring than Los Pineiros, but again very enjoyable. Some very hard holes particularly at the end of the round. There is no clubhouse, due to a fire, but they kindly made up packed pinches for us. A nice touch.
Lovely course. Last Hole a bit crazy golf but good fun. Shame no club house but staff were excellent.
No clubhouse and portacabin bar and reception awful ! Worst still was the condition of buggy paths , very neglected and dangerous! We ordered electric trolleys but the couldn’t provide as many are broken , probably due to the paths ! Changed our second round to Pinheiros as San Lorenzo was not a great experience! Played it over many years and totally appalled
San Lorenzo is a wonderful golf course, but currently hampered by no clubhouse and only portcabin / tent facilities.... the course is good, and will also benefit from some better expenditure when the budget allows.... but it remains a fine golf experience!
Lovely course, great value for money, limited facilities as the club house was no longer there but refreshments available.
Course in very good condition but paths in poor condition and dangerous in parts
Marked down because of lack of clubhouse. That said course is a good test especially holes beside boardwalk area and beach. More open than previous course. Well worth a visit despite my lower scores.
We were a bit concerned about some of the reviews we read from November last year but the course was in great condition. We really enjoyed both rounds. Not quite the level of Val de lobo but a really tough, challenging track with amazing holes. Will definitely be back again. A shame about the clubhouse but hopefully a new one will be in place soon. Nice touch with the free packed lunches.
We love San Lorenzo and have played it many times. Fantastic layout, good greens, fairways are average but getting better, facilities are minimal following the club house fire last year. The club is providing golfers with a free packed lunch to counter the lack of facilities. Drinks are available from a temporary bar and there are outdoor seats and portaloos so all is not lost. Pace of play was slow on Friday but much better on Saturday. The Dona Filipa hotel and golf package from YGT is great value for money and we will be back next year.
Best layout on the Algarve that I know. No clubhouse but no plans to build new one we were told. Lack of investment is apparent. Old rakes in bunkers if u can find one, practice area poor to hit off. Sand!! but having said all that the course layout is superb. A must every time u visit that area.
No clubhouse or any sign of one being built. Limited toilets with no soap dispenser or towels. Buggies with torn seats at €55, but did include food bag and water. Greens and fairways good. Used a buggy for first time here. The paths are a disgrace, not worthy of a third rate municipal course, never mind supposedly one of Europe's best. We love playing San Lorenzo but again it needs serious investment and has done for years. Very quiet this year.
A simply superb golfing canvass. So many memorable holes with great views, wonderful wildlife. Currently the course is not in the pink of condition. The staff were friendly, keen to assist and very courteous. We had been warned by YGT about current problems in advance.
no clubhouse die to fire, cart paths poor. course brilliant though. little facilities die to fire but the staff were very friendly and helpful. free packed lunch as a small compensation. played twice.
Excellent, beautiful course, green could have been better tho
My friends said this is one of the best courses he had played . We were lucky enough to play it twice. Looking forward to playing it again
We had 2 rounds at San Lorenzo. The first was reasonably fast but the 2nd was dreadfully slow which I pointed out to the hotel reception. The poor mark for facilities was entirely due to the clubhouse having been destroyed by fire.
We were disappointed with San Lorenzo after it being a bucket list course for so long. The club house had burnt down which is a real shame as everyone says it was excellent. The main issue was the nearly 6 hour round as far too many people on the course. Some beautiful holes, but a bit tatty and tired.
No clubhouse, looks a bit tired compared tonits peak, but still a challenge.
No complaints about the course Buggies 55 euros 2 sprites 8 euros with nowhere to sit or go inside when it was raining
No club house which we weren’t informed about and the course was not up to standard
Disappointing considering it’s regarded as one of the top courses in the Vale de Lobo area. Staff, with one exception, were not at all helpful, in fact very morose! It was unfortunate regarding the clubhouse but they had made virtually no effort to offer any reasonable facilities e.g. just one ladies and gents portable toilet. One table and 4 chairs outside the portakabin and absolutely no effort to provide reasonable facilities for a drink after playing - extremely disappointing given the fire was 3 months ago. General feeling of our group is that their living on their past reputation- they certainly need to up their game in our opinion especially as the Quinta and Royal / Ocean courses are significantly better in all aspects!
No buggies booked luckily we rang ourselves and managed to get some fantastic course but difficult impossible to play and walk round
Again, this course needs investment. Front 9 ( our back 9 on the day) was superb but went downhill from there. Clubhouse under reconstruction so no option to eat or have a beer at the moment
The Problem here is no facilities to speak of since a fire in July burnt down the clubhouse. There is a portacabin in the car park that doubles as check in & bar. There is also a temporary toilet and changing room. However, there is only 1 scruffy table and 5 chairs outside with no sun shade at all. The cold beer in the fridge ran out for our party of 16 after 1 drink. I just do not get that they have not purchased 10 tables with parasols and chairs for people to sit after golf. Most players are relying on transport collections so can not just leave immediately after playing their round. The course layout is still one of the best, the buggy tracks are terrible, the buggies are old and one of ours ran out of battery after 14 holes. The general course condition is ok but nothing compared to the conditions of the Quinta courses nearby.
Shocking general all round condition. Great lay out ruined by small things
Great course, with excellent staff. Temporarily no club house, but the course made up for that. Don't know what I paid, so can't comment on value. The area is expensive though and if you pay advertised rates, it may be questionable VFM. Greens were okay, but not great. Fairways and other areas were surprisingly soft and in places wet (from sprinklers). Really enjoyed the course overall. Highly recommended if you get a deal.
Fantastic golf course, some jaw-dropping and memorable holes. Just a shame that there is a temp clubhouse. Hopefully they rebuild soon as it takes the edge of an amazing course
Have only marked facilities down as club house burnt down recently. However, this did not detract from a great golf course, with iconic holes.
Clubhouse burnt down which we knew about. Staff not interested not effort made to provide drinks especially water. Couldn’t get any drink on the back 9. Then charge 7 euro for a Powerade. Not I’m pressed at all
Sadly the clubhouse had been burnt down a few days before we arrived. We were told no buggies would be available but on the two days we played they had managed to get some replacements. The second day we played there was a competition before us. It was sooooo slow we gave up on after the 9th. Course in good condition.
Course is ok considering the loss of the clubhouse to a recent fire. Still keeping the course in good nick. Not many playing it. Staff distraught about the loss. Buggies being brought in from other courses. It's a stunning course set around an inlet from the estuary.
Difficult in places but a great course
Good course in much better condition this year
To charge the money they do for this course is crazy. It is living on its history. The course was in average condition overall and the tee boxes were poor. Also, the clubhouse is in need of a renovation and the facilities were below standard for this money.
Cracking golf course, in good condition.
It was quite a slow game, however the course is in good condition
We found the condition of the course to be better than expected given some of the reviews we had read. Maybe it was because it was the first course and we might have felt differently if we had played others first but compared to the muddy tracks the UK has been turned into this year San Lorenzo was a world apart. San Lorenzo is a slightly more 'natural' course in this highly manicured part of the world making it a bit different. It was slow in places but a better experience than we had last year. We also had no buggy issues, they seem to have got over the problems they were having.
course was great - no buggies available and our transfers was already waiting for us before we finished round. as we had to walk there were also no refreshments available.
A wonderful course. A privilege to play there. So beautiful and scenic.
Very poor condition, tees and fairway’s were all rough and lots of divots. Staff were unfriendly and didn’t communicate with you. Would not recommend this course.
The course layout is brilliant but the whole course could do with more loving care round the edges. Very enjoyable rounds especially when starting early, 3 1/2 hrs when it was not busy.
Once a great course that we loved playing in past years. Now has become very shabby. Some greens we had to clear the leaves and debris before we could put. No beer / snack cart. Lack of warm up facilities. Staff seem disinterested. Would not recommend. There are many other courses in area that are much better kept and more welcoming/enjoyable experience.
Very good. Spectacular views. Tricky course No food after round. Staff were excellent. Very slow second round
Fairways patchy Tees patchy Greens variable.
Love San Lorenzo, will return. It’s just a delightful layout and so picturesque. Buggy paths really uneven as the tree roots have made the blocks very uneven - made for a very bumpy ride. Good bar food.
The clubhouse is a disgrace. Carpet full of stains.
The course and facilities are ageing; however, it's just a stunning course from start to finish. Will always go back to this course
I have played it since it opened some 36 years ago, i never get bored with it, every shot needs your full attention,
The course was in better condition than some previous years, particularly the greens which were excellent. There has been a lot of wild fires around the course but it appears to be largely undamaged. I was less than impressed with YGT's ability to arrange our preferred tee times however. Prior to departure I had attempted to arrange, through YGT earlier tee times. I was denied any sensible movement. In discussion with the club reception I was easily able to change all 3 times as the course was very quiet indeed. YGT, you need to do better
Really helpful and friendly staff with excellent pitching, putting and driving range facilities. StuNning front nine on this course, some beautiful holes overlooking the nature reserve, I really enjoyed my round - one of the prettiest courses I’ve ever played.
Always enjoyable to play San Lorenzo but obvious lack of maintenance apparent in some places.
The layout of the course is great, but we were disappointed. The fires have not helped, but I'm afraid the state of the greens was very disappointing and akin to what you'd expect at a local municipal course rather than a premium course on the Algarve. Covered in pitch marks, snake grass (?) growing through, and you could tell the cups hadn't been moved for a while as grass was woolly inside the edges and the hole surrounds were covered in footprints and scuff marks. I'd avoid playing here again until the condition has improved, not worth the money in its current state.
course needs attention One person serving drinks Short of drinks out of stock The place wasn’t very busy
Great course and one you have to play if you get the chance.. lits of dog-legs and blind drives so difficult foe the long hitters but very rewarding when u get it right. Water hazards made it fun and we were lucky we had noone in front or behind.. greens were ultra responsive as i spun the ball back 30ft off the first green which was a real ego boost but something i cant do back home... only issue we experienced was that the holes were cut really badly and had fallen in on themselves a lot, leaving the hole about half as big as it should have been, but just added to the fun.. loved this course..
Condition of some bunkers and fairways were not as expected
Typical Portuguese course very well kept
We arrived to find the course running late and a queue for buggies. But the staff were excellent, trying to sort everyone out in difficult circumstances and in spite of some golfers being unnecessarily rude. The fact the weather had turned hot made everyone want a buggy even if they hadn't pre-booked. The course was in excellent condition, better than I had been led to believe by some reviews. The only issue being golfers not repairing pitch marks or raking bunkers. The course is difficult in places but very pretty down by the nature reserve, although these holes are quite tight and we would benefit from having played the course before. There are a few holes where the houses encroach as well but overall would put it on the top half of the schedule.
Stunning course. One of the best settings in the Algarve. Wee bit rough on the tees and fairways. Needs a bit of investment.
We had a group of 16 and were told by YGT that there were plenty of buggies when we booked in I was told no buggies we’re available and we also had to start on the 10th as there were a few older players it spoiled the day
this course could be so much better if they actually took some loving care over it. The tee boxes are so bad, really awful condition, as are the bunkers and rakes. the course itself though and the greens are superb.
Course was good with some very nice hikes near the sea. Fairways and tees were not good enough really - perhaps not properly maintained during covid lockdowns.
Some interesting and challenging holes. Unfortunately our tee time was quite late 14.04 and we were badly held up by earlier groups. We ended up finishing in twilight getting bitten by mosquitoes down by the lakes. Suggest you ask for morning tee time!
I had been told it was in poor condition. I did not find it that way but it needs more attention to detail. No buggies or trolleys available when we arrived but that was resolved before our tee times. Very slow round.
Another quality course in Quinton de lago region
I feel it may be a little too hard for high handicap golfers but is stunning visually.
First class course. Beautiful backdrops, stunning scenery. Well established. Highly recommend. Felt for the club with hardly any visitors. Staff extremely helpful as always.
The clubhouse is orbit the changing rooms need updating. The course condition was not very good, neither the green or the tees. Probably the volume of traffic.
Please book buggies in advance as they are limited. The club shop was expensive. The greens were in poor condition.
Great course but buggies expensive and GPS
Great Scenic Course, untidy in areas, but overall a great, tough experience.
Not in great condition and considering the premium we payed (£150) was not worth it and certainly not so exclusive anymore
Some amazing holes, clubhouse needs a complete refurb, course wasn’t in great condition but if you can get access to this course it’s a must even just to experience holes 6,7 and 18!
Great course, every hole a challenge, cracking views. Bit pricey.
A brilliant course in great condition. Not easy but a fair enjoyable challenge. We would play this all week and forget Pinheros Altos
fantastic golf course
2 out of the 3 tee times were pushed back. One by 90 minutes.
A special place
One of the finest courses in the area a real treat to play
Thought the greens were a bit over watered which in turn they felt spongee other than that a great designed course would play again.
As usual a good challenge and very enjoyable.
Beautiful beyond belief with some holes that will linger in my mind for a long time, not to mention the most opulent properties I have ever laid eyes on.I played Ailsa at Trump Turnberry a few months ago and I can honestly say that San Lorenzo is up there with the best coarses I have played.
One of my favourite courses . Veiws are fantastic and the villas along the fairway are something else
One of my favourite courses in the Algarve- great layout. Always in good condition- only downside is with early tee times greens are v.soft from being heavily watered and can easily mark.
My first experience of San Lorenzo and my God, what a place. Amazing course, with some spectacular views and villas that would be outside a lottery win. Too difficult for me on the last day of a tour, but glad I experienced it.
This course was meant to be better than the previous, but my party all enjoyed. Pinheiros better. Buggies were better and cheaper. But would play both again. Would like to thank Nicolas Hall for all his help and advice. We are booking again for next year 😊
