This is the one that golfers want to play most largely in part to the course hosting the European Tour on eight occasions. The South Course is nestled perfectly in the Ria Formosa nature reserve, providing golfers with a great golfing experience, with beautiful views and picturesque settings.
A number of holes will test you on this course, with the 8th, 10th and 18th holes certainly deserving of a mention, proving themselves as challenging par 4 holes for even the lowest handicapped players. But the two holes that prove most testing are the 15th and 17th. The 15th is a 218 yard par 3 that requires a lengthy tee shot to carry over a lake onto a well guarded green surrounded by pine trees.
The 17th hole is a par 5 that proves to be worth the wait, as a spectacular view with numerous pine trees lining the hole, ensures a fine finish. An accurate tee shot is vital around the dogleg to avoid the rough, possibly setting up an approach shot to the green. There is no room for error on this hole as anything left or right will most definitely leave you in some trouble. It is not surprising that the South course at Quinta do Lago is ranked as one of the best courses in Portugal.
