0800 043 6644The clubhouse at Pwllheli is closer to the sea than any other in the United Kingdom, underlining the genuine links of the original nine holes. These were designed by Tom Morris of Hoylake in 1900, and are carved between the coastline’s sand dunes, and are a genuine test of seaside golf.
In 1909, the course was extended to its full length with the addition of the parkland loop mapped out by the great James Braid. The unique challenge of Pwllheli and its 6,108 yard course draws visitors back year after year, and is a fine part of any golf tour of the rugged North Wales shoreline.
Perp had started on the course and greens were dressed but playable. Wet in places but great course
Condition although only marked as 3 stars, could almost be graded separately, as the course is divided into the Links holes and Parkland holes. The links were great and very enjoyable, great views. The parkland holes were pretty wet and not upto the standard of the Links.
Drainage on the fairway was a problem underfoot in parts but at least an attempt had been made to try address the issue. The course geography was very interesting and challenging in parts with some super, unexpected views and coastal vistas to appreciate on our way round. Staff in the pro shop and at the bar weee more than accommodating and very pleasant.
Nice course with friendly staff. Front 9 a little moist but it more than makes up for it on the back 9. Very different but in a good way.
I put hard for difficulty because the condition, it was dreadful never playing there again ,don't want to say any more.
When we arrived at the course we were told that the front nine holes were closed. A number of the greens on the holes played were in a poor condition. Given that the course had been this condition for some time I would have expected to have been offered alternative courses to play given that we had travelled over 3 hours to reach the course and had taken time off work to play.
Great course.
Hard to leave a review as we never played it, but we turned up, the greens didn’t look great, half the course was closed, holes watered logged, never got anything from YGT or the club about this, so we left and went back to Nefyn GC, I’m sure it’s a nice course when the weather is better
The first half of the course is pretty dull, being flat with an up and down layout. The fairways were cut quite long and being wet had little run. The greens were average. The second half was a more challenging links layout with some interesting holes although a little confusing at times. The club house was rather basis and unattractive.
It unfortunately was heavily rained upon at our visit and some of the greens had been hollow tyined and not cleared however we still had a good time and as good of golfers as we are we could not control the weather-the wind was an experience but as you say by the sea it’s expected
Nice course. The links holes are tough.
It was great condition
Not the greatest course but still interesting and friendly staff
Hardest course I've played
Two very different 9’s, first tight parkland and then superb Lincs. Very friendly clubhouse.
Nice course with mix of links and parkland. Some of the higher handicappers struggled on the links section but that's no detriment to the course. Really good challenge. Very nice staff and food. Professional very helpful and accommodating.
Cracking little course, suffering only slightly on the links holes due to the extreme weather they had been experiencing. Staff were friendly and food and drink great value.
Great course but fairways very burnt in places.
Lovely course, mix of parkland and links. Misty and rainy when we played which unfortunately meant we couldn't appreciate it at it's best.
Great course but a bit slow due to comp
Great course with a mixture of parkland and lynx golf.
A little disappointing. The front 9 parkland part of the course we would describe as a bit "samey" with many of the holes indistinguishable from the others. The back 9 links holes were more challenging and interesting but the greens were very slow compared to the other 3 courses and whereas we would be happy to play any of the other 3 courses again we would not choose to return to Pwllheli
The parkland part of the course was in good condition but the links part wasn’t great, fairways were very patchy with a lot of bare lies.
Very windy day, making the course tricky. The Course was in great condition. Staff at the course were extremely helpful and friendly, would definitely play again.
