Hunstanton is a course that rewards accuracy and course management. Taking time to assess the line off the tee and how the ball is going to react once it is on the ground is key to scoring well.
Memorable holes include the par-4 6th which is a great example of where length doesn't provide difficulty. With an elevated green that offers dramatic slopes for anyone left or right of the flag, this is of equal chance of a birdie or double-bogey.
The par-3 14th is a blind par-3 that plays shorter than it's 219 yards but has a high amount of drama with the hope that your shot is inline with the large marker post behind the green with the greenside bunker on the right a popular spot for anything slightly right of the flag.
Another hole of note is that par-3 16th which looks about as natural a golf hole as you'll find anywhere in the world. The 7 bunkers surrounding the green are matched with views towards the Wash. This was also the scene of a famous hole-in-one by Bob Taylor, not happy with this hole-in-one on the first day, he did it again on the second day and the third day! A feat that is likely to never be repeated in golf.
The closing 18th climbs back towards the clubhouse and a par here is a great way to finish your round at Hunstanton. With a rich history all around the clubhouse to enjoy, be sure to take some time before or after to take it all in along with some excellent local cuisine on offer on the menu.
There's a path that runs along the course taking you directly to one of the best beaches in the area to have a dip whether your round has gone well or not so well.
Ryder Cup winning Captain Bernard Gallacher went onto say about Hunstanton “It’s a classic links course. A true championship test of golf.” This accolade is just one of the many that has been bestowed upon Hunstanton which has been at the very forefront of UK golf for over a century.
