The position of the Awali Hotel is fantastic on the ocean, close to the golf course, and all restaurants, bars and swimming pools all have a sea view, as did our room.
After a long flight and an early morning arrival the staff were very welcoming, but also very keen to persuade us to upgrade, book restaurants before we had even seen them and we were mis-informed about opening times of the main restaurant which hurried us into making decisions which were not in our best interest and added quite substantially to our cost.
Our bedroom was a good size, rather tired in decoration, the open "walk in wardrobe" was in the bathroom which we thought did not assist with the outside humidity. The staff came to do turn down service at 6.30pm rather early as one of us was usually in the shower and we asked for a later time but staff changed and the message was not passed on.
There was one main bar which served a lot of areas, and although there were plenty of staff, service was slow and if they were serving one or two tables any ice in your drink had melted if you were last to be served.
The restaurants were well organised the "C Beach" restaurant offered for us, the best ambiance, attention by staff and variety of menu which was traditional Mauritian and lovely.
The gardens and pool areas were very well maintained although at no time did we see anyone checking pool water.
The other guests that we met helped enhance the experience within the Hotel.
