Lacanau may be strictly a tree-lined woodland course, but with the Atlantic shoreline just a mile across the dunes, the course's sandy turf give it a links feel to a certain degree.
It may be fairly flat, but with the coastal breezes that are almost guaranteed, Lacanau is a great challenge, and is one that keeps visitors coming back year after year for a golf holiday.
Lacanau is famed for its impeccable condition - beware of the lightning fast greens, and try to keep your approach shots below the hole.
Set in the heart of a striking 50-hectare estate, the Best Western Golf Hotel Lacanau overlooks the famous golf course of the same name, and thanks to a recent refurbishment the hotel provides a terrific base to explore the golf course and the charming Domaine de l'Ardilouse landscape.
Amid the mature pine forests, the hotel boasts 50 guest bedrooms that have been upgraded, decorated in a tasteful modern style, and fitted with the necessary facilities to ensure total comfort.

The hotel has a superb swimming pool, while the expansive estate towards the shoreline is best explored by bicycle.
Situated between the 9th and 18th holes, the hotel's restaurant is known for its imaginative cuisine, particularly its fantastic seafood.
The hotel was perfect for us as it was right next to the golf course, our room looking over the 9th hole. It was also lovely to return after 18 holes of golf to enjoy the spa facilities. The only downside is that the restaurant was closed on the Sunday and Monday evenings and as there are no restaurants within walking distance we had to drive into Lacanau.
