David McLay-Kidd Golf Courses

Born and raised in Scotland, David McLay-Kidd grew up with golf in his life. His father Jimmy was a head greenkeeper managing the famed courses of Gleneagles.

Known initially for his minimalist designs, which some say is "golf as it used to be", he established his architect credentials with the world famous Dunes course at Bandon Dunes. Launching DMK Golf Design and going on to build best-in-class golf courses around the world.

David McLay-Kidd has created some of the world's best golf courses in recent years. His work has included Bandon Dunes, widely regarded as one of the best golf resorts in the USA, The Castle Course at St Andrews and Queenwood Golf Course which is a private members course in Surrey that counts the likes of Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose amongst its members.

David McLay-Kidd's golfing heritage lies deeply within Scotland. His father, Kimmy Kidd was a greenkeeper at Glasgow Golf Club before heading to Gleneagles where David was able to immerse himself at the 54 hole golf resort that was a regular stop on The European Tour and also hosted The 2014 Ryder Cup.

McLay-Kidd's work at Bandon Dunes is regarded amongst his finest. The creation of the Bandon Dunes golf course set a spetacular piece of Oregon coastline on a path to become one of the sought after golf destinations in the world.

McLay-Kidd has designed golf courses around the world including Nepal, Hawaii, South Africa, Fiji as well as within his home country, Scotland. The Castle Course at St Andrews has been joined by Machrihanish Dunes which has received rave reviews since opening. It's natural use of the land sees 6 greens and 5 tees just metres from the ocean to create a truely memorable golf experience that golfers return to year after year.

Terras da Comporta Dunas Course is the latest in David McLay-Kidd's portfolio to receive amazing press coverage. Chris Bertram, the rankings Editor for Golf World and Today's Golfer set the scene in saying The Dunas Course is "a continental European superstar in the making." Praise indeed for a course that is sure to feature amongst the best golf courses in Portugal. McLay-Kidd himself said it has a Pine Valley feel to it.
