We thought Majlis would be the best of the courses that we played but due to the condition of the greens, thick spongy almost very short astroturf condition (we were told they are awaiting preparation for Dubai Classic in January) this let the course down against the others we played. Reception and Locker Facilities were excellent as were all staff. Practice facilities were also very good. We played in a Shotgun start at 07:30 which seemed a little early given we only arrived in Dubai 12 hours earlier but to be fair it was probably a good thing given the heat in the afternoon was pushing 40 Deg C. The Tees and Fairways were in excellent condition as were the Sand areas adjoining the fairways. Bunkers around the Greens were in excellent condition but the Greens themself were quite thick and held the ball far too much. They looked as though they had been fertilised and height increased in preparation for cutting given the deep Green colour in comparison to the surrounds. Overall this is a good course in excellent surroundings with great views. Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming it was only the Green condition that let it down in our opinion.
When the Emirates Golf Club was established in 1988, it was the first all-grass championship course in the Gulf region, and was dubbed ‘the desert miracle'. Since then, the Emirates has been at the forefront as Dubai has flourished as a golf destination, and is home to two outstanding championship courses and a 9 hole par 3 course.
The Majlis Course is the headline act in the UAE, boasting breathtaking views of the Dubai skyline. This epic course hosts one of the most prestigious events on the European Tour; the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The event attracts some of the biggest names in golf, having been won by Tiger, McIlroy, and Seve, with our own Chief Holiday Officer, Lee Westwood, being a regular contender.
