Golf Courses at Ashbury Golf Hotel & Resort
Golf at The Ashbury Hotel & Resort comes in the form of no less than 4 18-hole golf courses including a par 54 18-hole par 3 course, as well as the Academy Course; a 9-hole layout ideal for honing your golf skills.
Kigbeare Course
The Kigbeare Course is The Ashbury Hotel and Resort’s flagship golf course. Measuring 6,528 yards from the back tees, it’s not overly long by modern standards, but long enough to make playing to its par of 72 a significant challenge even for the most experienced golfers. Fairways are treelined so accuracy from the tee is paramount while rolling fairways can test the golfer with uneven lies which make approach play into the large undulating greens a tricky proposition. Well placed hazards add to an enjoyable yet testing examination of your golf skills.
The signature hole on the Kigbeare Course comes early in the round at the Par 3 3rd. Measuring over 200 yards from the championship tees, this exciting Par 3 features an elevated tee, perched some 50 feet above the level of the green.
Pines Course
The 6,400 yard Pines Course plays to a par of 72 and is the second-longest course at The Ashbury Hotel & Resort. With plenty of room from the tee on the opening 9 holes, longer hitters will delight at the chance to reach for the driver and open their shoulders, while the tighter back 9 with its treelined fairways will even the score for those who rely more on precision than brute strength.
The Par 4 4th hole on the Pines Course is widely regarded as the signature hole. With an uphill tee shot and a fairway that narrows towards the green, with 3 water hazards also awaiting any shot missed to the right, this short Par 4 is as tricky as it is picturesque. Whether you go for the green or not from the tee, the 3-tiered putting surface places a premium not only on an accurate approach shot subject to the pin location, but also good putting skills to avoid a 3-putt should you find the incorrect level of the green.
Beeches Course
As you would imagine, with 99 holes at The Ashbury Hotel & Resort, there is plenty of variety on offer. With the Kigbeare and Pines Courses offering sterner tests of golf, a more relaxing game can be enjoyed on the Beeches Course which measures just 5,671 yards from the tips and plays to a par of 68.
Widely considered as the most picturesque course at the resort, The Beeches Course features tree-lined fairways, dramatic mounding and numerous elevation changes, most notably at the 3rd hole which features a triple-tier fairway dropping almost 200 feet from tee to green.
While the 3rd hole is truly spectacular and a joy to play, the signature hole on The Beeches Corse comes in the form of the 177 yard Par 3 12th. With stunning views across Dartmoor, this pretty little hole is both challenging and cute, with a stunning backdrop of ‘Sourton Tor’ and ‘Yes Tor’, the second-highest point of Dartmoor clearly in view.
Oakwood Course
Like the Beechwood Course, The Oakwood Course at The Ashbury Hotel & Resort in Devon measures around the 5,500 yard mark from the back tees, making it an ideal choice for higher handicappers, shorter hitter, or even just those looking for a more relaxing test of golf than you’d find on the Kigbeare and Pines Courses.
Well placed water hazards and bunkers provide the main challenge on this course which from tee to green requires a lot of thought in order to score well against a par of 68. Unspoiled views across Dartmoor make a round on the Oakwood Course a pleasurable experience no matter your score, and the character of the course can be summed up at the Par 4 15th. Driveable for longer hitters, this tempting little hole features a water hazard that stretches back some 120 yards from the front edge of the putting surface. Those who choose to layup and leave just a short iron into the green will still be left with an intimidating approach, and others who go for broke and attempt to drive the green will require a true strike to prevent their golf ball from finding a watery grave.
Willows Course
For those looking to sharpen their approach play, The Willows Course at The Ashbury Hotel & Resort is an ideal place for a round of golf. An 18-hole Par 3 golf course, The Willows is far more than a simple Pitch & Putt, offering holes ranging from 67 to 147 yards. One of the best Par 3 Courses in South West England, this charming little track features a number of ponds and bunkers that are complemented by the natural lay of the land including mounds, banks and trees. With smaller putting surfaces than those found on the full-length courses, accuracy is at a premium on The Willows.
Additional Golf Facilities
A Par 23 Academy Course is a great place for beginners trying their hand at golf for the first time, or indeed for more experienced golfers simply looking to warm up before taking to one of the main golf courses. Practice putting areas are also in place to roll a few warm-up putts in before your round.
