Montgomerie Maxx Royal Golf Course, one of the ambitious complexes of the Mediterranean, is the address of golf stars. Bearing the signature of Colin Montgomerie, one of the prestigious names of golf, the course offers a unique experience at any time of the day with its 18-hole course, 9 of which have special lighting, as well as hosting various organisations.
Montgomerie ranks the course as one of the finest he has created, and it has already established an impressive reputation for the quality of its design and conditioning, even attracting the attention of the European Tour, despite its relative youth.
Since 2013 the course has hosted the Turkish Airlines Open which is one of the marquee events on the European Tour and the penultimate leg of the Race to Dubai Final Series. Needless to say such an event attracts some of the biggest names in golf with leading stars of the European Tour, as well as Tiger Woods, who competed in 2013.
Despite the presence of some of golf's biggest names, two up and coming stars have laid claim to the first two titles at Maxx Royal, with Victor Dubuisson & Brooks Koepka emerging victorious in 2013 & 2014 respectively. Winning scores of -24 (Dubuisson in 2013) and -17 (Koepka in 2014) have been impressive at a course which measures nearly 7,200 yards from the championship markers against its par of 72.
With quick, undulating greens, along with punishing rough and rows of towering umbrella pines, accuracy off the tee, an eye for course management and a silky touch around the greens are needed to score well here. Koepka managed to average over 300 yards off the tee, while hitting more than 80% of greens in regulation in 2014, while Dubuisson managed to triumph in 2013 while hitting more than 86% of greens in regulation.
For the amateur golfer, additional sets of tees (4 in total) make the course much more playable than from the championship tees and thanks to the sandy sub-soil on which the course sits, golfers can enjoy the course and its excellent conditioning year round.
Practice Facilities
A huge, double-ended driving range provides golfers with the ideal place to warm up before heading to the course and with seperate bunker, chipping and putting short game practice areas, there is plenty of opportunity to get your eye in on and around the greens too.
Clubhouse
With luxurious facilities and amenities spread over two floors, the clubhouse at Montgomerie Maxx Royal is one of the most impressive in Turkey and a great place to unwind and perhaps enjoy a drink or a bite to eat after your round.
Be sure to spend some time in the viewing tower which allows players to enjoy a birdseye view of the course, as well as views out over the surrounding landscape and out towards the Mediterranean Sea.
