While Ibiza is famous for sun and sand, and a wild nightlife, there is more to the beautiful Balearic Island and luckily for fun seeking golfers, Developer Grupo Empresas Matutes has identified not one, but three potential sites for the construction of a brand new golf club complete with 18 hole course, driving range and golf school.
With one site lying between Cala Conta and Cala Tarida on the West coast of the island, another in Benimussa and another on the South coast in Playa D’en Bossa, it seems only a matter of time before Golf de Ibiza – the only golf complex on the island – is joined by another course, making the island all the more appealing for golfers looking to combine days spent on the fairways with Ibiza’s legendary nightlife.
With Ibiza being a Unesco World Heritage site, there will be particular environmental factors that will have to be considered but despite this, locals seem to be in favour of the new course’s arrival on the island with 68% of residents favouring the construction of the facility.
Ibiza’s larger neighbour, Mallorca, boasts over 20 golf courses and has long been seen as a more desirable destination for sun seeking golfers and it’s felt that Ibiza could be missing out the benefits of golf tourism. With a new course potentially on the horizon and all the sights and sound that Ibiza has long been famous for here to stay, the island could well make some moves in the golf travel market in the not too distant future.
