Tree Iron Please, Caddie!

Play was suspended yesterday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational as there was a threat of lightning; however there was still enough time for El Niño to hit a magnificent recovery from a tree at Bay Hill.

If you’re questioning why play was suspended for “just a bit of wind and rain” then just take a look at this:

Sergio Garcia managed to hit a very special one-handed shot backwards from 12 foot in the air half way up a tree.

First, I went up there to identify the ball and then saw that I could make the shot with just one hand,” Garcia said. “Luckily, it went well.”

However there will be no repeat by the Spaniard when play commences as he will not be returning to finish his round after pulling out because of injury.

His website explains that his shoulder and achilles were giving him trouble (climbing a huge tree half way through his round may or may not have contributed) and coming back for the final six holes could make them worse. Garcia was one under at the time.

However things are looking much better for the leader Tiger Woods – he is currently 12 under par and three shots clear having already played the first two holes of his final round before play was suspended.

If he does manage to go on to win (and not many would bet against this) the Arnold Palmer Invitational he will leap-frog Rory McIlroy and claim the title of No.1 Golfer in the World (which he was last able to do in October 2010) just 17 days before the start of The Masters.

El Niño’s amazing shot from a tree came a day after Nicholas Thompson made an equally amazing par-save on the 17th hole despite being knee deep in water.

The American managed to splash his way to an unbelievable par from the beach bunker on the 17th hole.
