Spain is home to some of the most popular golfing hotspots in Europe – think Murcia, the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz – but that is not to say the other lesser known areas of the country are not ideally suited to a golf holiday in the sun.
With 150 miles of sandy beaches, peaceful villages and picturesque countryside, not to mention plenty of historical and cultural attractions, excellent gastronomy and an enviable climate, the Costa Dorada is no stranger to tourism. Golf in the region however, has been something of a well kept secret among Spanish golfers who have been visiting this picturesque corner of Spain for years to frolic on the fairways. More recently though the courses and luxury resorts on offer here has attracted golfers from all corners of Europe.
As recently as three years ago, very few of the total rounds of golf played in this region were played by “international golfers” – reportedly just 2% – but now that figure is much larger, with upwards of 30% of total rounds now being played by visiting golfers.

The flagship course at Lumine is the aptly named Lakes Course. Designed by former world number one and two time major champion, Greg Norman, the Lakes Course makes use of its natural setting, weaving its way in and amongst a number of natural water hazards that are part of the Sèquia Major wetlands. The course is relatively flat but it is long and strong, requiring good ball striking and an all round game to stand a chance in the scrap against Old Man Par.
As they say, “variety is the spice of life”, and with the resort’s second course, the Hills Course being so totally different to its big sibling, there is plenty of that on offer at Lumine.
The Hills Course boasts some rather unique features and is truly spectacular from start to finish.
The Shark left the design of this course to Spanish course architect, Alfonso Vidaor, who has created a remarkable layout that weaves its way through mature pine trees, picturesque olive groves, natural quarries and rocky outcrops. The Hills Course is a much more technical challenge than the Lakes Course with an emphasis on shot making and course management. The Hills course is undulating and with views out over the Mediterranean it is a sight to behold which will be some consolation for those not quite on their game.

Each course has its own superb clubhouse where golfers can chew the fat after their rounds of golf with a refreshing drink or two and for the ultimate n relaxation, head to the Lumine Beach Club where you can relax after a long day on the course by taking a dip in one of the infinity pools, strolling along the beach or booking a table at the Lumine Restaurant.
With good travel connections – Reus Airport is just 6 miles from the resort and Barcelona can be reached in just over an hour – Lumine is convenient as well as quality and with excellent accommodation options in the surrounding area – H10 Salou Princess and Estival Park Hotel are both excellent choices – a stay and play holiday in the sun is hassle free.
