Q Hotels – Things to do and see away from the course

We already know the Q Hotels offer some Championship courses, including a Seve Ballesteros design at Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort, but what do they offer away from the Course?

Slaley Hall

Slaley Hall provides an ideal relaxing trip that takes you back in time as you enjoy a drink in front of the open fireplace in the Hotel Bar or indulge in a lamb-loin at the fine dining restaurant, Dukes.

Locally, you can be taken further back through history as you explore the Roman times at Hadrian’s Wall or Medieval times at Alnwick Castle.

But for those wanting to avoid the history lessons, there are local Horserace courses at Hexham and Newcastle, roughly 30 minutes away, as well as the Blue Reef Aquarium for you to become one with the animals.

If you don’t want to leave the hotel, there is 1000 acres of Northumberland woodland surrounding the hotel to adventure into as well as a variety of activities including, Quad-biking, kayaking and paint-balling.

As well as these, Slaley Hall is more than equipped for a relaxing spa day too with a state-of-the-ark spa, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and gym so that you can have as pampered a holiday as you like.

Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort

Although the golf at Westerwood may have some Spanish flair from the Seve Ballesteros designed golf course, the surrounding area in Glasgow offers little in resemblance to Spain. Quite the opposite, in fact, with an Indoor Snow Slope available at Soar INTU Braehead, so you can forget the hot climate and pack for a fun winter ski trip instead.

Don’t pack everything for winter, however, as with a spa, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, tennis courts, gym and pool, you’ll definitely want to pack some shorts.

After an eventful day on the slopes or a sensual day in the spa, Westerwood has ideal fine-dining to match. Flemings Restaurant offers an exquisite 7 course taster menu, enabling you to enjoy all of the delicious cuisine.

Aldwark Manor Golf & Spa Hotel

Aldwark Manor in York, is the place to be for a relaxing drink at the bar.

For the sporting enthusiasts, the Terrace Bar is the perfect place to relax after your round. Overlooking the 1st fairway, you can watch all fellow golfers attempts to play the hole whilst enjoying a chilled beer and debriefing your own round. If watching some below-average golf is not what you want to look at that, then lucky there are also big screens showing BT Sport and a pool table to keep you occupied.

If you are having a day off golf, then a good day could be spent touring Harewood House nearby and admiring the gardens, waterfall, woodland walks, and the Himalayan Garden. Then head for a glass of wine before dinner at the Squadron Bar which overlooks the 15th hole and the Yorkshire countryside.

Or spend your day off golf enjoying some of the facilities at the hotel, including a Swimming Pool, Suana, Jacuzzi, Steam Room and a Gym.

Telford Hotel & Golf Resort

For golfing historians, Telford Hotel & Golf Resort has 10 Museums nearby at the Iron Bridge Gorge which will show you in-depth Victorian History. Make a trip to all of these and you’re sure this trip will be a knowledgeable one.

Aside from history, there is plenty of relaxing hobbies on-site including a heated pool, spa, sauna, steam room and even an ice cave to refresh yourself. There is also a 24 hour gym on hand so you can fit your exercise in at anytime.

In the evening, guests have the choice of Restaurant 1779 serving modern European dishes with open views of the Shropshire countryside, or guests can head into Telford for a few more dining options.

Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort

Slightly further afield is Lincoln in case you want to brush up on your history knowledge and explore Lincoln Castle which is home to the Lincoln Magna Carta or visit Lincoln Cathedral, which are both roughly 30 minutes away.

Or there is a nearby town, Grantham, and nearby cities of Lincoln and Nottingham which offer a variety of restaurants if you want to add some spice to your flavour options.
