Golf can be addictive to say the least and while us golfers think that after the golfing bug has bitten, a life of toiling away on the fairways, trying to get a little white ball into an impossibly small hole is perfectly normal, there are others who don’t quite understand the obsession…below we have a fantastic poem sent in by the wife, or golf widow in this case, of one of our loyal customers.
A Golf Widow’s Muse!
“I’m thinking of thinking of taking up golf,”
I was told.
“It’ll be good exercise and I can play
Till I’m old.”
“I can play when I’m not at work,
On a spare day.”
“I’m sure there’ll not be a lot
To pay.”
“So what will you need to get started?”
I say.
“Oh not much,” he replies, “for me
Just to play.”
Fifteen years later, the time
Has just flown.
And the “not much,”
Has certainly grown!
Sets of irons, and putters,
And drivers.
Sand wedges, pitching wedges
And ball retri(e)vers.
A rescue club and
Fairway woods.
Bags, towels, pitch repairers, ball markers, tees,
All those goods.
Soft balls, hard balls, and of course
PRO V 2’s and 1.
A distance finder, mmm…..
That’s fun!
Electric trolley with
Lithium battery.
Oh, and club covers,
Usually furry!
Golf trousers, jumpers, shorts, shirts,
Socks and shoes.
All logoed of course, no wonder
I have the blues!
Wet gear, brolly, winter
And summer hat.
You’d think by now, that
That’s that!!
No….Club membership, golf days,
And green fees.
Then of course golfing weekends,
And trips overseas.
And so – from HIS love of
This game of golf.
Has there been anything
For myself?
Well! Control of the remote, a day or so
For a shopping spree.
A week here or there, to do
My own thing – freeee!!
And especially wonderful spa pampering with
“Your Golf Travel” – for me.
On golf/spa breaks at wonderful locations
like Ufford Park,
Old Thorns, And Breadsall Priory. t
BUT I have to say, all in all,
In the end.
The BEST I’ve gained is a whole
Bunch of Friends.
